About Melanin & Medicine

Melanin & Medicine is a UCLA student-run pre-med organization seeking to enrich scholars of the Afrikan Diaspora with the skills needed to excel in their health professional careers. Our goal is to revolutionize the future of medicine by dismantling the institutional barriers posed against Black students.
Our organization is dedicated to setting up our undergrads for success in future health careers. We provide our members with a variety of opportunities to gain skills and experience, including workshops, guest speakers, and community service projects. We believe that by supporting Black students in their journey towards becoming healthcare professionals, we can create a more just and equitable healthcare system for all.

At Melanin & Medicine, we are committed to empowering Black students in their pursuit of careers in healthcare. We provide our members with access to a variety of resources and support, including mentorship programs, career development workshops, and networking events.
If you are a Black student interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, we invite you to join our community. Together, we can work towards dismantling the systemic barriers that have historically excluded Black students from the healthcare field.

Our Activities and Programs

Melanin & Medicine offers a range of educational programs designed to support Black students in their pursuit of careers in healthcare. Our programs include an Annual Research Symposium, where students participate in a  quarter of independent research,  sponsored by a UCLA faculty member and mentored by one of our student board members. We also have regular general body meetings covering topics from a resume building, interviewing, and networking, to schedule planning and panels with medical and health professionals.
We also provide opportunities for our members to engage in community service and outreach projects through our Service Project, allowing them to gain valuable experience while making a positive impact in their communities.
